SERVICE-ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE Organizations over time have adopted several technologies and applications within their IT infrastructure. Disparate applications, distributed locations and the inability to implement functionality across applications is not uncommon in the typical IT scenario. As IT infrastructures evolve, it becomes essential to harness that infrastructure and seamlessly integrate existing, enhanced and new services across application and platform boundaries. Building new and replacing existing applications is no longer an acceptable solution in many cases. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an approach to a loosely coupled, protocol independent, standards based distributed computing environment, where software resources are made available as services. SOA allows the enterprise to define encapsulated business processes that are available over a standards based framework accessible by any authorized client within or across the organization. Applications are connected to the SOA framework over a common messaging framework. Processes are orchestrated independent of the underlying technologies, Managed and made available to authorized client users/applications. Use of standards ensures extensibility of the framework and insulates the organization from the otherwise harmful affects of changing products, data sources and consumers.
